DRC follows US Rowing definitions and guidelines. A junior, or youth, rower is a Competitor who in the current calendar year does not attain the age of 19, or who in the current calendar year does not attain the age of 20 and has been continuously enrolled in secondary school as a full-time student seeking a diploma. A Competitor thus ceases to be a Youth after December 31 of the year of their 18th birthday (U19), or upon completion of the 12th grade of secondary school, having been a full-time student within the year of their 19th birthday (U20). Athletes older than U20 are never eligible to compete as Youth.
-
A Master is an athlete who has attained or will attain the age of 21 during the current calendar year.
-
A Competitor’s age is determined as of December 31 of the current calendar year, rounded down to the nearest whole number. Masters Crews shall be classified by age according to the following categories:

DRC Juniors are a competitive team. But our Masters members do not have to compete–it’s completely up to each individual. We have members who row recreationally, members who row for exercise, and members who row competitively. It’s completely up to you.

Racing shells are categorized as singles (1x), doubles (2X), pairs (2-), quads (4X), fours (4+), and 8-crew boats (8+). Additionally, there are lightweight and heavyweight categories for both rowers and boats. DRC has Level 3, 4, and 5 boats which are generally used, respectively, by beginner, intermediate, and advanced rowers.

Yes, our club does sweep rowing in addition to sculling! We currently have a few pairs and one 4+. In the past, we have trained in smaller boats and rented 8+’s at regattas to compete and are looking to continue to compete in the future. Join us!
-
We often hold Sweep to Scull clinics if we have a group of former sweep rowers join at the same time. Please complete our interest form and we will let you know if we have one coming up. Otherwise, you can take private lessons.
It normally takes about two private lessons to get you rowing in a training single. We will focus on hand/oar placement and steering.
